Use The Force Luke! 5 Steps To Become A Conscious Creator

As you might have noticed, I talk about being a Conscious Creator a lot.

(And even named my free Facebook group The Conscious Creator Community!)

But if you’re new around here, then there’s a chance you don’t understand exactly what I mean by that!

I get questions about it occasionally so today I thought I’d do a post to clear things up for once and for all.

Let’s start by defining it first:


Conscious Creator is simply someone who consciously works to create their own reality.



It’s the opposite choice to default living: where you’re reacting to the things that occur but you don’t really do anything to change them or make your life more to your liking.

From the outside perspective, they can look almost entirely the same: you get up in the morning, go to work, come home etc. But while the Conscious Creator is focused on what they really want and where they’re ultimately going, those living unconsciously are just sort of filling up their time.

I’m extremely passionate about this because I’ve definitely had periods in my life of falling asleep at the wheel of life. For me, that meant staying in jobs or relationships (including my marriage!) for much much way longer than I should have!

In those times, I knew something was wrong but I wasn’t taking any action towards fixing it. I blindly hoped that with time, things would smooth themselves out. I naively thought that non-action was better than taking real action.

But of course, that’s never the way things work!

For me (like most of us) that avoidant approach was really just based in fear. We’re afraid of saying no or ending something so we don’t. But that always results in the same thing: what I like to call the Cosmic 2×4 Moment. That’s when life comes up and knocks you right over. It’s not fun but’s also inevitable.

Because you can try to avoid life all you want but the truth will always come out in the end!

All of this is just to say that I hope you don’t have to experience that Cosmic 2×4 Moment in the way I did! One of the best ways to prevent that from happening is to be honest with yourself, take responsibility for your present reality and to consciously start creating your own reality.

It’s never too late for you to become a Conscious Creator! That’s why today I’m sharing five crucial steps for you to start choosing your own reality.


5 Steps To Become A Conscious Creator


Become A Conscious Creator Step #1:

Take Radical Responsibility



Being conscious about where you’re going requires you to be conscious of where you are right now. It might sound obvious but taking radical responsibility for your life the way (warts and all!) is necessary for success.

We all have mistakes, setbacks and trauma. No one has lived a perfect life and it isn’t an even playing field! But comparing your situation to anyone else’s is pointless. We’ll never fully know what others have experienced. So why make yourself feel worse by comparing yourself that way?

Hiding behind blame might be tempting but please know that it’s a dead end. You always have the choice of where you want to go next and how you want to feel while doing it. But you won’t be able to do that if you’ve already surrendered all your power away.


Become A Conscious Creator Step #2:

Think Big Picture



I truly believe we’re all capable of living wildly amazing lives! However, the biggest reason we’re not yet doing that is because we simply don’t believe we have that capacity! So we cut off our dreams before they have a chance to bloom.

Step one in creating an amazing life is always figuring out what you want. Yes, of course, many amazing things that you haven’t anticipated can (and will!) happen along the way. But you still need a direction for your journey! Without a goal in mind, you’re just bumbling along. A goal is always necessary to create an awesome kind of life!

So please don’t get shy now! Thinking of crazyawesomehuge goals for yourself should be fun. It should fire up your imagination and get you excited. This isn’t about being realistic or figuring it all out. The point is simply to dream. Don’t talk yourself out of them before your journey has even begun! Dream big and the courage to actively pursue those dreams will soon follow.


Become A Conscious Creator Step #3:

Set Daily Intentions



No matter how juicy your intentions might be, a truly awesome life is about much more than just those big goals! Your day-to-day life might seem inconsequential or even boring at times but there is so much magic in the every day! You truly can create a beautiful life by tuning your attention to the “little” things.

The truth is being intentional is a practice! Which means you have to practice doing it, day in and day out. I love to practice setting intentions for various things in my day. You can think about how you want your work day, a big meeting or your work out to go. You can set intentions for how you want to feel and how you want your work to flow. You can set intentions for something fun and unexpected to show up as well as a money intention for the day.

Please don’t be fooled! These “small” intentions truly add up and create huge results over time. The more you can practice living intentionally, the better (and bigger!) your results will be.

Become A Conscious Creator Step #4:

Visualize/Journal/Focus Your Energy



Sometimes I find certain people get frustrated with manifesting because they want a specific manifesting formula: ie. meditate for 20 minutes a day for 17 days and boom! Your wish will be here.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work that way! The reason is always because your manifestation comes through when you’ve done the work and you’re truly ready for it. So much depends on how well you can integrate your desire, learn any needed lessons and work on upping your havingness levels.

How can you best put yourself in the energy of having? We all do our best in entirely different ways. Some people are really great at visualizing while others would prefer to journal it out. Think of the way you learn best: are you a visual learner? A verbal learner? A kinaesthetic learner? Tailoring your manifesting experience to match your particular talents is key! Whatever your method might be, be sure to devote time to it daily so you can reconnect with your desire and truly step into the idea of having.


Become A Conscious Creator Step #5:

Stay Playful/Let It Go



When you’re focusing your energy and attention on making something happen, it can be all too easy to forget the real purpose to the practice! But in the end, you’re doing all of this work because you want to feel good.

So if you’re stressing and panicking and micromanaging your way to your goal you’ve already gone fallen off the right track! It’s almost impossible to create a positive result from things that make you feel angry or stressed. That’s all just to say that your energy is what matters the most–always.

If you’ve defaulted back into the habit of hustling, it’s time to take a step back. How can you start having fun again? How can you approach things with a beautiful playful energy instead of one of desperation or striving?

Personally, it always helps me to remember to focus on the feeling. There are a million ways to feel successful, loved, happy etc. so please don’t ever think that your intention is the only path to happiness! You get to choose how to feel every day and the more you start choosing the way you want to feel right now the better your results will be.

How To Stop Living Life By Default

Are you living your life by default?

You might be surprised to realize the answer is yes.

A default life is one where you just passively accept things the way life is showing up for you.

It’s living life without making it truly yours, without deciding on what you want and going after it, without truly making your beautiful magical world.

It’s all too easy to fall into living by default.

It’s all too easy to become a victim of your circumstances instead of the hero of your own story.

It’s all too easy to forget that YOU are the one that’s truly in charge and that if you don’t like something you have the power to change it.

So do you really want to settle for what just shows up for you?

Or do you want to live consciously?

To design your life with PURPOSE.

To determine what’s just not good enough and to know what to go after next.

Settling for the default means staying in a relationship that’s no longer serving you because it’s easier than breaking up and starting over.

Settling for the default means accepting the job you know is underneath you because you don’t think anything better is going to come along.

Settling the default is falling for the idea that your life is NOT truly yours to create (ie. giving your power away to everyone and everything around you).

And I know all this to be true because at one point ALL of those things applied to me.

I was definitely living by default–and it was no one’s fault but my own!

I signed up for it. I let someone else steer my boat. I even ENJOYED not living consciously.

Of course, when I think about it now, that seems like total madness!

So please don’t worry though if you’re in the same boat! There IS a way out.

It took a long time to figure that out exactly what had gone wrong, but hopefully reading this post will help push you down a different path.

That’s one of the reasons why I’m so PASSIONATE about helping people become conscious creators.

It’s my job to show you tell you that’s there’s another way to live your life.


Every day you have the choice to live your life consciously or to just settle for what show’s up.



And here’s some advice on exactly how to do that:


How To Stop Living Life By Default


Stop Living Life By Default Step #1:

Get Clear About Your Values



What do you really want from life? What are the most important elements in this journey for you?

Our values are what create and shape our life and our happiness. When we’re out of alignment, we feel stress, depression or maybe just a lingering feeling that something is off.

Living life by default means you probably haven’t asked yourself these questions in quite a long time! And our answers constantly grow and change as we grow and change. It might come as a surprise to find out that what you held dear yesterday is not what you value right now.

So be honest with yourself about what makes you happy and about what you admire. Where do you feel jealousy or resentment? Those feelings can also hold important clues about where you might feel in lack.


Stop Living Life By Default Step #2:

Get Comfy With Fear



Change is scary. New experiences are scary. And your brain’s Number One Job is to keep you safe. That was really great back in the day when getting eaten by a bear was a real possibility. But these days your brain is fooled into thinking that things like public speaking, going to a party with a bunch of strangers or starting a new job is scary. Like life-threateningly scary and it makes YOU act accordingly.

Yes, of course, all of those things can be awkward and weird, potentially embarrassing and filled with the unknown. But none of them have the power to kill you. It’s important to realize your brain is going overboard by trying to protect you! We have to try new things, make mistakes and potentially embarrass ourselves sometimes, especially when we’re trying out something new! And we all survive those moments. The reality is that no one is paying as much attention as you think they are! So take a deep breath and start thinking of yourself as downright fearless.


Stop Living Life By Default Step #3:

Stop The Blame Game



Repeat after me: the more you blame other people or situations for where you are right now, the more you give your own power away! Look, I get it. Things haven’t always been easy. Life hasn’t always worked out exactly the way you’ve wanted it to. You’ve been disappointed, heartbroken, betrayed, maybe even abused.

And after a certain point it doesn’t matter.

But no matter what your story is, you always have a choice: to continue to let it define you. Or to create a new life DESPITE what you’ve been through. To live consciously is to write your own storyline! So if the old one isn’t serving you, then maybe it’s time to try out something new.


Stop Living Life By Default Step #4:

Trust Your Intuition



Your gut and your heart are the two instruments that will forever keep you glued to the right path in life. When it comes down to it, you always know when something is off in your life: when the relationship isn’t working anymore, when the job loses its shine, when the moment to move on has come (no matter how in denial you might be about it). The more you tune into yourself, the more clear the “right” move will be.


Stop Living Life By Default Step #5:

Chase Your Passion



The world is riddled with people who would rather you dull your sparkle instead of shine your beautiful light in this world (aka the haters). Those people would rather you fold up your arms and not bother living the life of your dreams because what’s the point? Never let the too cool for school arm chair critics win! The more passion, love and laughter you bring to the world, the more genuine happiness you will find.

Some people will sit back and mock your earnestness–but go ahead and let them. Because here’s the alternative: living a life devoid of true happiness because you’re too afraid of what you’re going to look like to someone else. Yeah, it’s definitely UNCOOL to wear your heart on your sleeve at times, but would you rather be cool or be happy? If you ask me, happiness is well-worth the trade off.


Stop Living Life By Default Step #6:

Engage With Your Life



Are you spending much of your day hiding behind a screen? Maybe you’re guilty of watching hours and hours of TV or scrolling Facebook incessantly. I mean I get it: I still watch the Real Housewives and definitely hit that Facebook refresh button a little too often.

But it’s important to understand that your life happens offline. Your friends and family are out there in the real world (despite the limited connection you might have online). New experiences and adventures are also out there (despite being able to find more of them online). Life doesn’t happen while you’re staring at a screen! So make time to go out there and live yours and stop just watching someone else’s adventures scroll by.

It's a FACT of life: you're simply NOT going to fe It's a FACT of life: you're simply NOT going to feel good all the time.And that's okay!Not gonna lie: the last month or so has been rough for me.The darkness of winter + strict lockdowns/limited holiday celebrations were TOUGH.I've definitely had my moments of letting it all get to me.But that doesn't mean anything has gone wrong.It doesn't mean that I'm somehow failing.And it definitely does NOT mean I'm putting more space between me and my manifestation goals.Even with the BEST of intentions, life is 50/50. Expecting perfection at any time will ONLY set you up for disappointment.Feeling frustrated, down, exhausted: those are all normal feelings for anyone experiencing a pandemic (plus general winter blues/ political chaos etc.)So while I don't want to create MORE of those feelings, I'm also not going to judge myself for having them.Making your feelings WRONG does not speed you up back into feeling better. It only creates self-loathing and resistance.Are you feeling the same? Here are a few things that are helping me right now:- Just letting myself cry if I feel like it (Sometimes 10 minutes of a good cry is a sufficient release!)
- Concentrating on pandemic-lockdown friendly goals that I CAN achieve (Doing pilates every day, meditation + Manifestation Journaling)
- Taking a break from drinking (I only drank about once a week anyway! But why not try going without it for a month?)
- Doing more behind-the-scenes entrepreneur stuff (The kinds of things that are so easy to put off for "someday")
- Using my SAD lamp every morning! (I only just got it but I swear it's helping)
- NOT judging myself too harshly if I suddenly don't feel up to doing the work I had planned or posting as much I "should" (Being an entrepreneur brings an EXTRA level of potential self-judgment that's hard to get out of at times.)This is all just a great example of one of the most important lessons of LIFE.You don't get to choose all your circumstances. But you DO get to choose what you do WITH them.What are you choosing to create right now? Whether you're in lockdown or not, I'd love to hear it!
The one constant in life is CHANGE.So you might The one constant in life is CHANGE.So you might as well get excited about it all and take the reigns of choosing WHAT you’re changing into.
