Whether you’re on a personal quest for self-discovery or simply seeking a cinematic experience that transcends the mundane, these films will captivate you and enlighten you.

Here’s my curated list of the 10+ best spiritual shows to watch on Netflix (or Amazon) that will touch your heart and leave you pondering the bigger questions:

10+ Spiritual Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

1. Going Home | Ram Dass (2017)

Ram Dass was one of the most profound spiritual teachers of our time. This documentary takes an intimate glimpse into his life at his home on Maui, as he journeys through his end of life.

How To Change Your Mind | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

2. How to Change Your Mind | Michael Pollan (2022)

Can psychedelics change your view on life? In this documentary, Michael Pollen suggests the answer is yes. Based on the book of the same name, we discover how plant medicine and LSD can affect consciousness, dying, addiction, depression, and transcendence.

Brene Brown Call To Courage | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

3. The Call To Courage | Brene Brown (2019)

If you need a little inspiration to get out of your comfort zone, this is the lecture for you! In The Call To Courage, famed researcher Brene Brown challenges us to take the brave path instead of giving into fear or comfort.

Fantastic Fungi | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

3. Fantastic Fungi | Paul Stametz (2019)

Surprisingly, the world of fungi (yes, mushrooms!) can teach us a lot about spirituality. Watch this riveting documentary to learn more about how fungi communicate through mycelium networks, as well as the power of medicinal mushrooms. Still worth a watch even if psilocybin is not for you! (If you like this, also check out the Disney classic Donald in Mathemagic Land!)

Is God A Number? | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

4. Is God A Number? (1995)

What does mathematics have to do with the universe and the mystery of consciousness? Whether you’re into quantum physics, spirituality, or math (lol!), this is well worth a watch.

Stutz | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

5. Stutz (2022)

Watching Jonah Hill talk with his therapist Phil Stutz is a lot more interesting than you might think! I know Jonah Hill gives us the ick recently (and rightfully so). But Stutz is a wise and charming figure offering some deep wisdom. (He’s also the partial author of both The Tools and Coming Alive–two of my favorite psychology and self-help books!) There are some very useful lessons on human nature in this series. Just don’t use them to gaslight your girlfriend!

The Midnight Gospel | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

6. The Midnight Gospel (2020)

The Midnight Gospel is my absolute favorite on this list. This is the animated Netflix version of the podcast, by the same name. It truly explores some complex spiritual questions, but in a fun, funny, and highly entertaining way. I’m desperately hoping for Season 2!

Headspace Guide To Meditation | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

7. Headspace: Guide To Meditation (2021)

We can all agree that meditation is one of the most powerful and transformative spiritual practices there is. Headspace’s Guide to Meditation helps to explain the power of meditation, in an easy and doable way. This one is perfect for meditation for beginners but it can also serve as a way for seasoned meditators to come back to the basics again.

Headspace also has a few other documentaries on Netflix, Unwind Your Mind and A Guide To Sleep.

The Secret Dare To Dream | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

8. The Secret: Dare To Dream (2020)

You’ve probably seen The Secret already. But have you seen The Secret: Dare to Dream? Unlike The Secret, this one’s a film about a widow (played by Katie Holmes) who meets a professor (Josh Lucas) who teaches her how her thoughts can change her future.

Escaping Twin Flames | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

9. Escaping Twin Flames (2023)

Okay so this one isn’t exactly enlightening per se. It’s about the darker side of spirituality: cult mentality, gurus, and toxic “spiritual” beliefs. It serves as a good warning about how certain supposedly spiritual practitioners actually harm their followers more than do them good–even if a lot of what they’re saying “makes sense” or “feels right”. (Reminder: you are your own sovereign leader, always!)

Yoga With Xochilt | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

10. Yoga With Xochilt (2023)

This one is also not exactly spiritual. But yoga is a spiritual practice of its own, which many people all over the world enjoy, whether they’re spiritual or not. Yoga With Xochilt is great for beginners and it’s got some simple 5-15 minute sequences, which are great to add into your daily practice or as a break in between all the shows and documentaries you’ve been watching.

The Goop Lab | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

11. The Goop Lab (2020)

Gywneth Paltrow is not exactly my cup of tea. I can get behind goop sometimes, but other times I’m eyerolling myself across the room. (The vagina candle?? Please!) So low and behold, I was pleasantly surprised by this docu-series, which explores breathwork, psychedelics, and more. (Related: it features less of GP herself than you might think!)

What The Bleep Do We Know | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

I Origins | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

2. I Origins (2014)

I Origins is often overlooked, even in the world of spiritual movies. But this is a beautiful story about connectedness and reincarnation.

The Celestine Prophecy | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

3. The Celestine Prophecy (2006)

The Celestine Prophecy was one of the first spiritual books I ever read, back when I stole it from my Dad! Based on the 1993 book of the same name, this one follows an unemployed on a spiritual awakening journey to Peru.

Eat Pray Love | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

4. Eat Pray Love (2010)

An oldie but a goodie! If you’re going through a spiritual awakening, then let Julia Roberts serve as some light-hearted inspiration. I preferred the book but the movie is still cute! I watched this several times during my Eat Pray Love-era: ie. travelling to Bali and moving to Berlin.

Samsara | 10+ Spiritual & Self-Development Shows To Watch On Netflix (& Beyond!)

5. Samsara (2011)

Samsara is a stunning spiritual documentary, shot over five years, in locations around the world. It’s a film without dialogue, but it will have you reflecting on spirituality, love, and human interconnectedness. It’s sister film, Baraka, is also well worth a watch.

So what did you think? Which spiritual Netflix movie or docuseries are you watching first? Which ones have you already seen and what did you learn from it?

As always, I’m curious about you. I’d love to know your thoughts on these documentaries and movies, as well as any other suggestions you might have for this list!

I have no doubt you’ll find something educational or inspiring on this list. So grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and get ready to embark on a spiritual journey with these thought-provoking and inspiring movies available on Netflix!
