Self Authority Type | Human Design Explained
Last Updated on July 5, 2025
Curious about the Self Authority Type in Human Design? Perhaps you just had a human design chart reading and are ready to find out more about this unique authority.
Self Authority (also called Self Projected Authority) is a deep inner knowing that guides identity, direction, and purpose. Unlike the Heart Authority, which focuses on desires, Self-Projected Authority provides a subtle yet innate understanding of what’s right for you.
What Are Authority Types in Human Design?
Authority types in Human Design are the different ways in which individuals receive and process information to make decisions. They are based on the energetic centers, or Chakras, in the body.
There are seven main authority types: Sacral, Solar Plexus, Ego/Heart, Splenic, Environmental, Throat and Lunar. Each type has unique characteristics and influences how a person approaches decisions and life in general.

What is Self Authority Type (Or Self-Projected Authority)?
In the world of Human Design, Self Authority is a unique energy type that empowers individuals to trust their own wisdom. Those with Self Authority must learn to create a strong sense of self and learn to rely on their intuition to guide their decisions.
Only Projectors can have this “self-certified” authority, requiring a white solar plexus, sacral, spleen, and ego center with a colored G-center connected to the throat chakra.
- 2.8% of the population
- Human Design Type: Typically Projectors
- Energy Center: Throat Chakra
Key Characteristics of Self-Authority
You Have An Inner Knowing
Individuals with Self-Authority have a deep connection to their inner voice. They can trust their sense of inner knowing and make decisions based on what feels right–even if it looks crazy or other people don’t get it.
You’re Very Independent
Self-Authority types are often independent thinkers. They value their autonomy and prefer to make their own choices.
You’re Self-Reliant
People with Self-Authority are self-reliant. They can rely on their own resources and abilities to overcome challenges.
You’re Naturally Confident
Self-Authority individuals exude confidence in their decisions. They believe in their abilities and trust their judgment.
Strategy For Self-Authority
Those with Self Authority types are designed to express their identity, listen to their own voice, and manifest their desires through communication.
As a Self-Projected Projector, you possess defined Throat and Identity G centers. Your Identity G center is the energy hub for direction, love, self, and purpose, while the Throat center governs expression, communication, and action.
This authority type means you are here to listen to your own voice and express your truth. Speaking aloud provides clarity and allows you to untangle your thoughts.
So grab a good friend who can let you vent without judgment. However, it’s important to focus on your voice here, not on the opinions of your conversational partner.
Since it can be tricky to find a suitable partner, you can also try just talking out loud to yourself or maybe to the Voice Memo app on your phone. Some people even do this while walking around with their Airpods in, so that it looks like you’re on a phone call.
Writing it out also works! So if you haven’t tried journaling, now’s the time.
How to Embrace Your Self-Authority
Self Authority, here’s how to tap into your inner knowing
Speak Your Truth
It’s crucial for you to learn how to listen to your own inner voice and to tune out the voice of your partner, parents, society or anyone else. The people around you will always have a lot to say about your life and decisions! But you must learn to let that all go with love to focus in on what’s right for you.
Talk about your thoughts and feelings.
Listen to Yourself
Pay close attention to your own words and insights. For you, it’s often easier to “hear” your thoughts as they come out of your own mouth or after you’ve had a conversation. Yes, your thoughts still matter too but it’s very important to verbalize things as you will often surprise yourself!
Trust Your Gut (Throat)
Follow the guidance from your Self/Identity Center. This is often called the G center and is associated with the throat (or liver).
Notice If Your Chest or Throat Feels Open Or Closed
When speaking to yourself or others, you’ll sometimes notice sensations of opening or closing in your chest or throat. These sensations indicate whether you should engage or disengage with something or someone.
Practice Self-Reflection
Deliberately take time to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This will help you deepen your connection to your inner self.
Let Go Of Doubt
Once you’ve made a decision based on your inner knowing, trust that it’s the right one. Doubt and second-guessing can hinder your progress.
Surround Yourself with Supportive People
It’s especially important for you to have people around you who will let you just be you. Being forced, pushed, or corrected by others hinders your progress. Avoid seeking validation from others and focus on your own inner wisdom. You must learn to trust your own clarity when making decisions, no matter what the people around you think.
Trust Your Moment To Moment Decisions
Always listen to what you’re saying in the present moment, as that’s where your truth lies. You’re priorities and interests might change quickly, so make it a habit to always check in with yourself rather than relying on historical information.
Self-Projected Authority | Final Thoughts
Ultimately, Self Authority is a rare authority type that requires a unique strategy. However, by learning to harness the power of your throat chakra you can make decisions with clarity and ease.
This one is all about trusting yourself, which is scary at times! But trust the process. Over time, it will be easier to identify when you’re out of alignment and easier to focus on your own inner voice.
