Transforming Your Perspective: How to Feel Better About Any Problem

Dealing with problems can often leave us feeling overwhelmed and stuck. As a spiritual life and business coach, I’ve encountered numerous challenges, both personally and professionally. Today, I’m going to share a simple yet powerful formula that can help you not only address any problem but also change how you feel about it.

A Framework for Reframing Problems

Understanding Our Brain’s Role

Our brains are hardwired to identify and solve problems. This natural tendency can sometimes lead us to overemphasize issues, causing unnecessary stress and anxiety.

The Model – CTFAR

This process, originally developed by Brooke Castillo, is a practical way to dissect and understand your problems. It stands for Circumstance, Thought, Feeling, Action, and Result. By breaking down a problem into these components, you can gain clarity and a new perspective.

Implementing the Model

Circumstance: Identify the neutral fact of the situation.

Thought: Recognize the thoughts you have about this circumstance.

Feeling: Understand the feelings that arise from your thoughts.

Action: Acknowledge the actions you take based on these feelings.

Result: Notice the results that your actions lead to.

Transforming Your Approach to Problems

Shifting Your Thoughts

Realize that your thoughts about a circumstance are what dictate your feelings and actions. By changing your thoughts, you can alter how you feel and react to a situation.

Empowering Yourself

Understand that you have the power to choose your thoughts. This realization is empowering and can significantly change your approach to any problem.

Applying the Model Practically

Use this model to reframe real-life situations. For example, if you’re feeling undervalued at work, change your thought process to one that empowers you, leading to positive actions and results.

Final Notes

Problems don’t have to control our lives. By understanding and applying this simple model, you can shift your perspective and feel better about any situation. Remember, you have the power to change your thoughts and, consequently, your feelings and actions.
