A Simple Guide To Planetary Magic

Last Updated on July 6, 2025

Curious about the world of planetary magic? Maybe you already pay attention to the moon phases and your horoscope and are ready to take the next step of your journey into magic.

Planetary magic is a powerful form of magic, used by both new practitioners and old. One of the reasons why it’s so popular is because it’s a relatively simple concept to work with. Simply find the energy of what you’re trying to manifest and create rituals that revolve around that.

Remember, the planets exert influence over us whether we consciously engage with them or not. By participating in planetary magic, we take an active role in shaping our destiny and potentially fostering a reciprocal relationship with the celestial bodies.

What is Magic?

Magic (I use this word interchangeably with “magick”) is the belief in energy, thoughts, and intentions shaping the world around you. It’s practiced in many ways, from Wicca to working with deities.

What Is Planetary Magic (or Astrology Magick)?

Ancient civilizations recognized the profound influence of celestial bodies on human life. By attuning to planetary energies, individuals can tap into specific qualities and accelerate personal growth.

Planetary magic involves establishing a relationship with a celestial body to manifest desired outcomes. Each planet governs different life areas:

Sun: vitality, leadership
Moon: emotions, intuition
Mercury: communication, intellect
Venus: love, beauty
Mars: energy, passion
Jupiter: abundance, expansion
Saturn: structure, discipline

While it’s tempting to work with multiple planets simultaneously, focusing on one builds a stronger connection and yields better results.

Basic Planetary Correspondences

Now that you see the basic qualities of the planets, you can start to understand their correspondences – or symbolic associations in other objects and ideas. Here are a few examples:

Days of the Week

Sunday – Sun
Monday – Moon
Tuesday – Mars
Wednesday – Mercury
Thursday – Jupiter
Friday – Venus
Saturday – Saturn

Astrological Signs

Mars – Aries
Taurus – Venus
Gemini – Mercury
Moon – Cancer
Sun – Leo
Virgo – Mercury
Libra – Venus
Scorpio – Mars & Pluto
Jupiter – Sagittarius
Saturn – Capricorn
Uranus – Aquarius
Neptune – Pisces

Those are just a few examples! You can also find planetary magic correspondences in moon phases, crystals herbs, essential oils, chakras, color, deities and more. (More below!)

How To Do Basic Planetary Magic

Getting started with planetary magic is simple! You simply need to look up the correspondences that make sense for your particular wish or petition. Then incorporate it into your magickal work from there.

Choose Your Planetary Ally

Consider your most pressing need and align it with a planet’s energy. For instance, if you seek financial abundance, Jupiter would be a suitable choice.

Create A Planetary Altar or Sacred Space

Dedicate an altar to your chosen planet, adorned with corresponding elements (colors, crystals, herbs). Regular rituals and offerings strengthen your bond with the planetary energy. By offering incense, candles, food, and libations on specific days and hours, you can align yourself with the vibrations of each planet.

My best magickal advice is to not get overly caught up in the “rules”. Use what you can or what you have and be deliberate with your choices. But no need to spend a lot on fancy supplies or try to get everything Instagram-worthy!

Pick Your Date/Time/Month

Time is another huge factor for planetary magic. However, we will devote a future blog post to this topic.
