Declutter To Create Abundance

Declutter to create abundance? I know that sounds weird at first! But trust me: it works.

One of the most important spiritual principles you will ever learn is this: everything is energy.

Every thought, every feeling every single relationship, and every last pair of shoes in your closet. All of it is energy.

And most of us are surrounded by energy that’s blocking our natural abundance!

One of the biggest manifesting mistakes you can make is not paying attention to the energy that’s in your life already. Yet this is exactly what most would-be manifestors do.

They set a big juicy goal and get really excited about what that will bring them. But part of drawing something new into your life is creating space for it.

You simply cannot keep pouring water into a cup!

At a certain point, the water will just overflow and be lost.

It’s the exact same thing with you.

You have a set energetic bandwidth. You cannot keep giving and giving without getting depleted at some point. Similarly, you cannot keep doing/thinking/saying the same things day in and day out and expect a change to happen.

In manifestation, change always happens on the inside first. It’s like when you look in the mirror: you think about smiling before you actually smile back at yourself. You might not notice because it happens so fast but make no mistake that the intention comes first.

Decluttering is a powerful way to start making those internal changes.

Truth is, we all get caught up in our old identity, beliefs, and routines if we don’t take action to shift. Decluttering is a powerful way to make that shift while also creating more energetic space for abundance to flow into your life.

Here are some powerful decluttering for abundance tips to get you started.

Declutter To Create Abundance: 7 Essential Tips

Declutter To Create Abundance Tip #1: Your Home

Your home is a physical culmination of the energy in your life. While it should be a place for us to rest and recharge, for many of us, it isn’t. Instead, we let things pile up without even thinking much about it, including tokens of long-ended relationships, clothing that no longer fits, and things we don’t use anymore but haven’t gotten around to donating.

It’s important to remember that everything has an energetic footprint. Everything that you own takes up mental weight inside your mind. After all, you’re paying rent or a mortgage to house it! You have to clean it, organize it and move it when you change homes. A lot of the time all of that energy is simply not worth the return.

Decluttering is actually one of my favorite ways to kick off my manifestation routine! So I challenge you now to take this knowledge and apply it by decluttering your space. Just removing a few old items can make a huge energetic difference!

Declutter To Create Abundance Tip #2: Your Wardrobe

Just like your home, your wardrobe is also a container for your energy, both good and bad. And again, most of us are hanging onto a lot of stuff that doesn’t fit (energetically or literally). Let’s face it: if most of your wardrobe is clothes that only fit you ten pounds ago, what message do you receive every time you open your closet doors?

You deserve to have clothing that fits your body now–not a drawer full of too-small bras that you’ll buy more of once you lose a certain amount of weight. That’s just reinforcing a number of negative thoughts, every single day.

The thing is, that even if you want to lose weight, punishing yourself for not being the weight you want to be right now is not the way to do it. When we approach any goal from punishment instead of love, we’re setting ourselves up for extra resistance.

So let me ask you this: What opening your closet filled you with joy instead? What if you had fewer better things, all beautifully cared for and organized? What if you had an appropriate outfit that made you feel really great for every occasion in your life? What if you never had to look at the now too-small dress you wore on your first date with your husband and feel bad about yourself ever again?

If your closet is overstuffed yet you never have anything to wear or just interacting with it makes you feel terrible about yourself, it’s a definite sign that you need to declutter your wardrobe.

Declutter To Create Abundance Tip #3: Your Tech

It’s true! Your phone, laptop, and other devices are important places to declutter as well.

When was the last time you deleted the apps you don’t use or the outtakes from your last phone photography session? Most of us are carrying around a fair amount of digital garbage and clutter. Yet every time you open your phone or photos app you see it all right there in front of you.

Set aside some time to go through your phone and get rid of anything you’re not using or don’t really need. Personally, I aim to delete stuff off my phone about once a week. Otherwise I’m wandering around with a bunch of random photos that I’ll probably never want to look at again.

It’s easy to get rid of the apps that you’re not using but this is a good opportunity to get rid f things that you do use. Do you need to play games for hours every night? Is this really how you want to relax at the end of the day? If this is a temptation for you, try going cold turkey by straight-up deleting the games from your phone. (Swap out “games” for Instagram or Pinterest or whatever your poison might be.)

Declutter To Create Abundance Tip #4: Your Schedule

Like it or lump it, we’re all creatures of habit. We do the same things day after day, in the same order, often including our thoughts and feelings.

While setting a schedule is a powerful tool for creating success on automatic, we do have to fine-tune things from time to time to make sure we’re supporting our highest interests. It’s really easy to start giving your time away to things that aren’t that important to you, without even realizing what you’re doing.

For example, checking your email multiple times a day can throw your whole day out of alignment. Of course, communication is important. But sometimes opening our inbox can put us into reactive mode: jumping to answer a million requests from other people, instead of attending to our most important tasks.

And that’s just one small example! So I challenge you to notice what’s actually happening regularly throughout your week, whether it’s officially on your schedule or not.
Then take stock: is there a better way to approach things?

The more you consciously think and plan ahead of time, the better off you’ll be.

Declutter To Create Abundance Tip #5: Your Relationships

We can definitely fall into patterns with our relationships–and not always in a good way. The simple fact is the friends you had as a child or teen might not be the greatest fit for you now. People change and grow over time and our needs and preferences change too. Our relationships should also change accordingly.

However, I’m definitely not suggesting that you need to stop seeing all your friends and replace them with a whole new set! But from time to time, it’s worth asking whether or not you’re still feeling fulfilled from these interactions.

Ask yourself: How do I feel when I’m with this person? How do I feel after our interactions? (Drained or uplifted?) Does this person truly listen to me and express interest in my life or is it a one-sided relationship? How do I feel when I make plans to see them? (A sense of dread is an indicator that something is up!)

If not, perhaps you need to set some new boundaries (ie Two drinks at the bar maximum or only seeing X once a month at most.) Many relationships can be salvaged if the parameters are tweaked a little. And if that’s not enough, let it go with love.

Declutter To Create Abundance Tip #6: Your Emotional Baggage

Quite often, the things that weigh us down are of our own creation! Replaying old situations in your mind or constantly talking yourself out of something you really want is a sign that maybe it’s time for some inner healing work.

What’s looping through your mind?

Sometimes we hold onto grudges against someone else or ourselves for way too long. But none of us are perfect and neither are our parents, partners etc. Is there something you’re still holding against someone important in your life (including yourself)? What would it feel like to finally forgive them, accept where you are, and move on.

Similarly, if you have the urge to do something over and over again but you’re constantly talking yourself out of it (because “What will people think?” etc.), it’s time to look deeper. Our fears very often hide behind a layer of logic. But if every time you open Instagram and see someone posting from Bali, you get a pang of envy, then maybe it’s time to claim that dream for yourself. Playing it safe is not letting your soul express itself and fighting to talk yourself out of those dreams can be incredibly draining.

Any resentment, regret or rage is really just an opportunity for us to heal and grow. Remember, that you don’t have to let these heavy emotions drag you down! But it is always up to you to heal and release them.

Declutter To Create Abundance Tip #7: Your Mind

When was the last time you released the thoughts in your mind and had a good sort through them?

If you’re like most people, the answer is probably never.

Quite honestly, I’d never even heard of this practice until fairly recently–and I was a psychology major!

This practice creates immense relief for me and I hope it does the same for you too.

Here’s how to do it:

Just grab a journal and pen, set a timer for fifteen minutes, and write down anything that’s on your mind.

(You can also do the Morning Pages practice from Julia Cameron, which accomplished the same thing.)

Basically, our brains main job is to think. But a lot of the thoughts in our minds are just garbage thoughts that don’t really need to be there.

Letting them out allows those thoughts to feel “heard” and releases the urgency of having to continually think them.

You can also take this time to review what you’ve written to see what limiting beliefs and stories you might be habitually thinking that aren’t serving you.

Either way, just pouring out those thoughts into physical form is a serious release and lets you get mental control back. I highly recommend trying this out–and if you love it as much as I do, making it part of your daily routine.
